Bulldogs Add Campbell as Head Trainer

Port Alberni, BC – The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are very proud to announce today that Dave Campbell has been hired as the team’s new Head Trainer and Equipment Manager.
"I am very pleased to be joining the Bulldogs franchise as I look forward to an exciting hockey season in the BCHL,” said Campbell. “I would like to thank the hockey club’s ownership, management, and coaching staff for this opportunity to come in and make a difference.”

A graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Campbell earned his Bachelor of Kinesiology while completing studies in physical education, biology, and sport management. Prior to his time at UNB, Dave also earned a Diploma in Massage Therapy and a sport therapy certification at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage.
“A good trainer plays an intricate roll in the success of any team,” commented Bulldogs’ Director of Hockey Operations Rick Schievink.  “I am very excited to have someone with Dave’s background join our staff. His knowledge, expertise and attention to detail will be of great benefit to the Bulldogs organization and especially to our players.”

Campbell fills the void that was left with the departure of Bulldogs’ Athletic Therapist and Equipment Manager Chad Oliver. Oliver was hired as the head trainer this past summer by the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League.

Campbell comes with an extensive hockey background where he most recently spent the last two seasons at St. Thomas University men’s hockey club in the CIS as the Massage Therapist/Equipment Manager/Trainer.

Prior to his time with St. Thomas University, Campbell spent 5 years working in junior hockey on the east coast with the PEI Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles also of the QMJHL, and the Woodstock Slammers Junior A Hockey Club of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.  Furthermore, Campbell has been appointed by Hockey Canada on three previous occasions to assist with national-level events. Campbell served as a trainer and/or equipment manager for Team Canada East at the World Junior A Challenge in 2006, Team Canada Atlantic in the IIHF World U-17 Hockey Championships in 2009 hosted by Port Alberni, and Hockey Canada’s National Development Sledge Hockey Program in 2011.

During Campbell’s time on the east coach he had the pleasure to work with some great coaches including Alain Vigneault, Pascal Vincent who was recently hired as an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Jets, and Mike Eagles.
“The decision to come to Port Alberni was an easy one for me based on the very professional nature of conversations with Rick Schievink and (head coach) Paul Esdale,” added Campbell. I am looking forward to getting back behind the bench in September to kick off a great hockey season.

Welcome Dave to Port Alberni and to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs family.
