The Alberni Valley Bulldogs (1-0-0-0) travel to Duncan to take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals (0-1-0-0) in a BCHL Coastal Conference match-up. Game time is 7:00 pm.
The Bulldogs got their season started last night in Victoria with a 3-2 SO win over the Grizzlies, while the Caps were defeated 2-1 by the West Kelowna Warriors in Duncan.
This is the 1st match-up for these two clubs since the Bulldogs swept their Coastal Conference Quarter-Final series with the Caps last spring.
The Bulldogs have dominated Cowichan Valley in the season series of late. They were 7-2-0-0 last year, and are 22-8-1-0 in the past 5 seasons.
As he was much of last season, Capitals goaltender McCoy Bidewell made 48 saves on the 50 shots the Warriors sent his way. Bidewell gave the Bulldogs fits at times last season, and he appears to be picking up right where he left off a season ago.
In Victoria, it was the young-guns for the Bulldogs who led the way offensively as both Raoul Boilard and Jax Wismer scored in regulation for their 1st career goals, and then Raoul added the only goal of the shootout to earn the Bulldogs the win. Hobie Hedquist was solid for the Bulldogs in the win as well. Hedquist stopped 27 of 29 before closing the door on all 5 Grizzlies shooters in the skills session.
