The offence finally clicked, but it wasn’t enough as the early season slump continued for the Bulldogs in a 5-4 loss to the Powell River Kings on Saturday night at the Dawg Pound. 1411 fans took in the home opener, making it the highest attended home opener since 1496 opened the 2018 season.
While entertaining, the Bulldogs dropped their 3 straight contest after opening the season with a shootout win over the Grizzlies.
Braden Blace scored twice, while Jules Boilard (1) and Nicholas Beneteau (2) added singles in the loss.
Hobie Hedquist had a rare off night between the pipes as he allowed 5 goals on 21 shots in defeat. Hedquist was on the wrong end of a nasty collision in the 2nd period, but remained in the game.
Special teams were not so special for the Bulldogs on Saturday as the power play was 0 for 6, while the penalty allowed 2 goals in 7 opportunities.
The Bulldogs will have a full week to get ready for big early season match up with the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday night at home. They will they host the Langley Rivermen on Thanksgiving Monday in a 2pm contest.
