The Alberni Valley Bulldogs (17-13-0-0) kick stat a big weekend at the Dawg Pound by hosting the Coquitlam Express (14-11-1-1). Tonight’s game is presented by the San Group.
To say the Bulldogs owe the Express one would be an understatement. The Express have taken two straight from the Bulldogs including a 3rd period collapse on home ice, and getting annihilated 7-1 in the clubs final game before Christmas in Coquitlam. It wasn’t pretty and the Bulldogs know it.
Coquitlam is coming off a pair of losses in Powell River last weekend, while the Bulldogs are coming off a 10-2 drubbing of the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
The standings in the Coastal Conference are getting tighter by the week. Just 6 total points separate 2nd from 6th. The Bulldogs find themselves 4th, but have played more games than everyone else in the conference. Wins are becoming crucial if they want to maintain a precious position with home-ice advantage.
Callum Tung will draw the start in goal for tonight’s game. He’s 1-2 against Coquitlam this season and has surrendered 12 goals in the 3 games he faced them. His 4.41 GAA ranks as his worst total against all BCHL clubs, so you know Tung will look to improve that number tonight.
Drew Garzone of the Express has been a one-man wrecking crew against the Bulldogs with 4 goals and 3 assists in the 3 game set, and opposition fans always seem to enjoy the antics of Express captain Luke Vardy
Once the Bulldogs deal with the Express, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, one of the top teams in the Interior Conference make their one and only visit to the Dawg Pound this season. Hayden Stavroff will get the chance to take on his old club, and it’s the LAST chance fans will have to see the Bulldogs this month.
