The Bulldogs clawed back from two separate two-goal deficits to run their preseason record to 3 and 0 with a 7-5 win Wednesday night in Nanaimo over the Clippers.
The Clippers led 2-0 seven minutes into the game on goals by Cole Lonsdale and Chase Hull, but the Bulldogs responded to make it 2-1 at 8:45 of the first with Evan Stastny scoring his first of the preseason, with assists to Grayson Badger and Brady McIsaac.
The Bulldogs tied it while on the power play in the second, with Colin Winn throwing the puck ahead for an odd-man rush that saw Brady McIsaac roof his second of the pre season, with Samuel Léonard also assisting. The Clippers scored twice in 24 seconds to restore the two goal lead, with Dylan Kinch and Jack O’Donnell scoring. The Bulldogs made it 4-3 with under three to play in the period with Brady McIssac scoring his second of the night, with Luke Melnik assisting. An ugly scene with under a minute to play saw Calle Sandström appear to be knocked unconscious on a hit by Morgan Hackman, who would receive a five minute major for a blow to the head and a game misconduct as the teams were sent to their dressing rooms early while he received medical attention.
Upon resumption of play, the Bulldogs immediately made the Clippers pay as just 8 seconds into the power play it was 4-4 as Brady McIsaac completed the hat trick with Caden Tremblay and Grayson Badger assisting.
The Bulldogs took their first lead 36 seconds into the third, with Grayson Badger scoring his second of the preseason, with Caden Tremblay and Dryden Kuramoto assisting. It was 6-4 a further 23 seconds later, with Jesse Allecia netting his first preseason goal, assisted by Wyatt Blace for a third goal on the major penalty. The Clippers made it 6-5 on the power play on a Joel Plante goal, but the Bulldogs got their insurance back, again on the power play with Dryden Kuramoto scoring his first of the preseason with Brady McIsaac and Caden Tremblay assisting to complete the scoring and make it a 7-5 final.
Shots were even at 32 aside, with Colin Winn earning the victory while Chazz Nixon took the loss.
The Bulldogs went 5 for 7 on the power play while the Clippers were 1 for 6.
The Bulldogs conclude their preseason schedule by hosting the Cowichan Valley Capitals at the Dawg Pound on Friday night.
Game time is 7:00pm.
